Fitness Goals : 5 Tips For Staying On Track

Happy Monday!  I wanted to focus on fitness today to kick off the week.  Summer is coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean you should stop working out and eating healthy. The most important thing to do once you get in a healthy habit is to KEEP DOING IT.   It’s way harder to get back into your routine once you stop…trust me.

I’m going to share my five favorite tips for staying on track with your fitness goals.

1. WORK OUT WITH A FRIEND

This is one of my favorite tips because it’s all about accountability.  When you start working out with a friend you are much more likely to stick to it because who wants to disappoint their friends…not me!!  Plus it makes it ALOT more fun.  You can catch up on the latest gossip all while getting your burn in on the treadmill or while doing your squats.  I also highly suggest joining fitness classes together and setting your schedule for the week in advance, so you both know what to expect.  I personally like taking classes because all you have to do is show up and follow along…no planning necessary.

2. GO FOR A WALK FIRST THING IN THE MORNING

This is a great tip to make sure you at least get SOMETHING in if your schedule gets out of control for the day.  It’s not uncommon for everyone’s day to get a little crazy, especially as it gets later in the day.  That’s when you can start to make excuses for why you don’t have time to fit it in…make dinner, play with the kids, meet friends for a drink, etc etc etc.  Don’t let this happen to you.  By waking up just 30 minutes earlier a day to go for a walk or run, you can set your day off on the right track from the start.  I guarantee you will want to make healthier food choices throughout the day when you start it off right too.

3. WEAR A FITNESS TRACKER

I love, love, love my apple watch for tracking my fitness goals.  I try to get at least 10,000 steps in each day and a fitbit or watch is much better for tracking this than your phone. Wearing my watch helps me stay motivated to get up and move when I see that I’m still 2,000 steps away from hitting my goal.  That pushes me to go on a little walk with the kids before bed…which is great because it teaches them healthy habits as well and gets them away from the TV.  There are affordable pedometer’s as well, so you don’t have to go with anything really fancy if you want to try this out.

 4. WRITE YOUR WORKOUT FOR THE WEEK ON A GIANT CALENDAR

This is another great way to reward yourself and physically see that you are making progress.  Put a big calendar in your office, bedroom, or anywhere that you will see it everyday and write your workouts for the week.  {Example : Monday – 1 HR Run , Tuesday : Barre Class , Wednesday – 1 HR Bike , Thursday – 1 HR Outdoor Workout , Friday – 45 MIN Walk , Saturday – Barre Class , Sunday – Rest}  At the end of the day, if you completed your workout, CHECK THAT SH*T OFF.  There’s something extremely gratifying about doing this and it should keep you motivated to keep pushing through day after day and sticking to your goals.

5. TREAT YOURSELF TO SUPER CUTE WORKOUT GEAR

I don’t know what it is, but I always feel more motivated to get my booty to my daily workout when I’ve got a killer outfit to wear.  Does anyone else feel this way?  Give yourself a goal, if you work out for one week straight or one month straight {whatever you want} then you get to buy a new pair of leggings or that cute sports bra you’ve had your eye on.  Another great thing to do is to set that super cute workout gear out the night before…that way it’s all ready to go in the morning and you have no excuse to skip that early morning run or 5:30am barre class.

There you have it.  Those are five of my favorite tips to keep you motivated to reach your fitness goals.  It’s not always easy for me to stay on track either, with such a busy lifestyle, but these tips really help me keep pushing through.  I hope that they help you too.  Do you have anything that I didn’t talk about that really helps you to stick with it? If so, comment below because I’m always looking for new motivation.

We leave for New York in the morning with Hudson and Ayla…wish us luck!  You can expect a lot of fun posts from the Big Apple, so stay tuned.

  1. Working out with a friend has been a really good motivator for me. If I invest a little bit of money say on new workout pants or shoes, or an 8wk program, I am more likely to keep on track too since I have put money into.

  2. These are great tips for jumpstarting your fitness! If I start my day with an activity it sets my mindset into a healthier direction where I make better choices.
