Chicago Trip Recap : Lollapalooza 2017

It’s official, I survived my first Lollapalooza experience…barely.

We had a blast, but this gal is WORN OUT!  Phew!  I want to share highlights from our trip.

Thursday :

We flew in on Thursday and had terrible luck with a super delayed flight due to bad weather in Chicago.  We were supposed to arrive at 2pm and didn’t end up arriving until 6pm.  Ouch!  We are happy, however, that we arrived safe and sound!

We then had to rush, rush, rush to our hotel to get ready because we were meeting our friends for dinner at Maple & Ash.  We ended up making it without everyone having to wait too long.

Maple & Ash is a super chic steak restaurant in downtown Chicago.  The food was delicious, the service was phenomenal, and the ambiance was perfection.  I recommend it if you’re in the area.

After dinner, our group headed over to a cocktail lounge nearby called Sparrow.  Their cocktails were amazing and very creative…I got the “grasshopper” which was basically like drinking melted mint chocolate chip ice cream..um yum!

Everyone was pretty beat from a day of traveling, but my husband and I somehow managed to power through another hour of dancing at The Underground.  Good times!

Friday :

Friday was the first day of Lolla for us, but we didn’t end up heading over until about 4pm.  The first half of the day was filled with shopping {at Nordstrom..yes!} and wandering around the city.

The first night at Lolla was amazing…talk about great people watching!  I couldn’t believe how many people were there..let’s just say it was insane.  The bands were all great…my favorite was The Killers and they were the main headliner that night.

My drink of choice was a really yummy Jack Daniels Black Cherry Slushie.  It was SO good.  I don’t even like whiskey, but these were major YUM and a hit all around.

It’s funny because we had big plans to go out after because the shows end at about 10pm…but yaaaa that definitely did not happen.  Something about being outside really sucks it out of you.  Our entire group was worn out after a fun night {a few too many black cherry slushies} and ended up back at the hotel for bed by 11pm.

Saturday :

My husband and I enjoyed sleeping in {sans kiddos} and took our time getting out and about for the day.

We spent the first half of the day shopping again {go figure} and actually stopped to get our nails done.  I force Justin to do this whenever we travel..I think he secretly likes it though.

After we got our nails done, we stopped for a late lunch at Siena Tavern which I highly recommend.  The atmosphere is really great and the food is delicious.  We got the burrata {my fav}, Caesar Salad, and the lobster pasta….split of course.  It was perfection…oh and my glass of Rosé wasn’t bad either.

This was a final night of Lolla and we met our friends there at about 4:30pm.  There was TWICE the amount of people as the night before.  All of the bands were SOOOO good and the weather couldn’t have been better.

The final show that we watched was Cascade which was an INSANE performance.  We got pretty close to the stage and we danced the night away.  There was fire, lights, and all kinds of crazy stuff going on at once.  I loved every second of it, but never knew where to look between the hyped up crowd and the crazy characters dancing on stage.

After the last show, we were worn out again {go figure} and just went back to the hotel for a movie and some much needed sleep.  It took quite some time to get back to the hotel due to the crazy amount of people all trying to leave at once.  Wowza.

Overall :

I wasn’t sure what to expect with Lollapalooza, but I would for sure go again.  It was really fun to go with friends and if you’re not in your early 20’s, I recommend spending the extra $$ and going with VIP tickets.  It’s not nearly as crowded and the vibe is much more chill.

We just boarded our plane and our about to head back to the good life…aka Nebraska.  I can’t wait to squeeze my sweet babes…they were missed!

I hope you all had an amazing weekend as well, until next time.

XOXO – Sara
